When should transmission fluid be changed

Mar 1, 2018 · As you know, the transmissions are sealed, and according to the manual, the trans fluid does not have to be changed. I had an oil change the other day and the mechanic said he checked the fluid (via the drain plug), and that it was dark. So he recommended it be changed.
