AMF bought the company in 1968 and I think 72 or 73 was when the bikes actually got labeled as such. It's funny, I went to the Harley museum and even they act like it was all AMF. Well, the real issue was the employees who were assembling the bikes (sabotage was not unheard of and QC did not exist as we know it today) and management.
